This is a beautiful essay, Karissa, and so heartfelt. I feel your pain when you talk about everything you're trying to balance. I remember when my son was an infant/toddler and it was SO tough feeling pulled in a hundred directions and that there was never enough of me to go around.
That ties in beautifully with what you said about building our house--or rather, letting God build it for us.
What you said here was particularly thoughtful: "Notice that psalm does not say “Unless the Lord helps you build your house;” it says “Unless the Lord builds the house.” What a relief that God is the one who is building our house. He is doing the work. We need only submit to him."
I hope this season feels a little slower for you. Having time to reflect--and eat real meals sitting down!--is important.

Thanks so much for reading and for your kind words!
Really enjoyed this reflection, Karissa! Especially since I find myself in a very similar season with young kids, work, writing, etc.
Thank you!
